Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
